The administration of nutritional products through drinking water is a versatile and effective way to support animals during their growth and production processes. Products are usually administered in drinking water for short period, to support animals going through specific problems related to their productive phase, or to the interference of stressful events of various kind. Some of these products can be used at reduced dosage throughout the productive life as a basic supplementation.

In case of a stressful event, of any kind, illness, vaccine response, high performance, high environmental temperature, there is an increase in oxidative stress resulting in immunosuppression and a decrease in ingestion, water consumption instead has less reduction, and in case of heat stress it even increases.

Differently from feed-grade products, the use of complementary feed in drinking water allows to supply essential nutrients to assure a full and quick recovery.
There is a wide range of liquid and soluble complementary feeds, their composition changes depending on the situations experienced in the farm. Liver tonics that help to detox the organism in order to resume ingestion; antioxidants that help to contrast oxidative stress; vitamin or mineral supplements to support the animal needs, acidifiers to intervene on the water pH, amino acid supplements to compensate any deficiency in feed.
