TOWARDS THE ADOPTION OF NEW NUTRITIONAL TECHNOLOGIES IN WEANING
The ban on the use of zinc and the need to gradually reduce the use of premixes medicate in feed in favor of more targeted treatments in water and by individual injection, has imposed the adoption of new nutritional practices during the weaning phase.
The first principle that must be followed in the formulation phase is that the more precisely they come once the nutrients brought in with the diet are calculated, the more accurate the calculation of the animals’ needs is each productive phase, tanning fewer unwanted nutrients will arrive undigested in the more distal sections of the intestine, removing them from the fermentations of pathogenic bacteria.
The high amino acid requirements that lead to an excess of proteins in the formulation phase
significantly increase the risk of turbulence of the digestive system and therefore alterations of the health state. The imbalance between the intake of nutrients with the diet and the needs is also the cause of pollution, as the undigested parts accumulate in the excrement.
The N.E.W. project PIG. (Nutritional engineering in weaning for performance, immunity and the gut Sanità) received funding from the Emilia-Romagna Region as part of the operation
16.2.01, which aims to increase the competitiveness of businesses through the implementation of
innovative practices.
It recognizes the following objectives:
– Decrease feed protein during weaning while maintaining performance unchanged,
decreasing the use of antibiotics and improving the health of animals;
– Increase nitrogen retention and therefore feed efficiency;
– Demonstrate that an entirely vegetable feed (excluding milk by-products) is
as effective as one containing herring meal and plasma, two considered cornerstones
essential at this stage;
– Confirm the effectiveness of the Bivit and Neofarma food program setting
weaning.
